YAMAHA AND OTHER TESTIMONIALS

Triumph Tiger Sport 2013

My second visit to John who set up my old Street Triple R perfectly a year ago. The difference on the Tiger Sport is even more profound. It’s gone from a ‘not bad’ handling bike to actually putting the sport in Tiger Sport. The floaty vagueness I was experiencing, disconnected and dead braking and fork dive all now totally remedied – it’s precise, keen to turn in without losing any noticeable comfort. I’m carrying way more speed into the bends without any twitchiness from the bike or my backside. Let’s see how long I can hold onto the back of my mate’s Tuono in the Black Forest in April now… ok maybe not but it’s the best it can possibly be. The best £30 I’ve spent since my previous visit – don’t wait! Robin

2003 Yamaha R1

It's been around a month now since John set my suspension up for me. I can honestly say it's 'the' best £30 I've ever spent on my bike. The difference is unbelievable. My R1 is now so responsive and easy to throw about. I'm riding quicker, smoother more confidant than I have in years. Every bike I get from now on this will be my first stop. David

Hi John, Bike set-up so far, based on the ride home.... WOW, seriously, WOW......Just turning left from your drive, I noticed it immediately, It was almost as if I just looked around the corner, and the bike followed ....

One of the issues I have had previously, is a feeling that it was difficult to get around mini roundabouts etc, I never mentioned this as I thought it was just because I was not yet confident / used to the bigger bike, but after turning left from your estate, and going around the mini roundabout at the bottom of the hill, it was amazing, the bike just wanted to go around it, and felt so stable .. and this was at 3 or 4 mph .. lol, who would have thought ?

As for the cornering / wobble I told you about .. sorted, it feels so happy now, the bike basically seems to WANT to corner, it drops in so fast, and will switch from one side to the other with no effort, and feels stable when powering out .. amazing difference from this morning :-)

Thanks for basically giving me a new bike, I will experiment with the Rear SAG(as discussed),and see if that makes more difference, but in terms of quality today, you have one very happy customer .Thank you sincerely, Colin

Things are much better now you have sorted my suspension I can only describe the ride before you did your magic as a sea saw motion into and out of corners now it handles like it looks thanks for giving me the bike it should be , Karl

I can't praise John and his talent for suspension set up enough, I would recommend that whatever bike you have new or old you get John to set it up for your individual weight and riding style. The difference is unbelievable! It turns in and holds lines in a fantastic manner, it feels like a different bike. It's the best 30 quid you will ever spend on your bike! Thanks again John, Trevor

Triumph Street Triple R ABS 2013

(on line set up)

John, I went out for a quick ride today and wanted to let you know how my first impressions. WOW, the front end feels incredible, around corners the bike stays on the line of where I want to go rather than wandering and me having to correct it. It feels smoother and does not want to wander when the road surface roughens up. Again, thank you for your advise, looking forward to going to work tomorrow on it. Kind regards Bryan(Hampshire)

Hi John, I just wanted to thank you for setting up the suspension on my S1000rr on Saturday. I cannot believe the difference, it now feels very planted and holds the line perfectly not to mention how much more comfortable it is. Our lass is amazed at the improvement she is now not bouncing all over lol. Thank you very much. Regards Jamie

Hi John, I'm now back in Edinburgh - Had a great ride out yesterday to Skegness & lovely roads around the Lincolnshire Wolds. The bike was fantastic- really sorted into every corner, as if on rails. Power straight on and no issues either. Many thanks for setting her up correctly,Cheers Clive

Ducati Multistrada 1200 2013

John, good to meet you again and thanks for working your magic on my Multistrada. I immediately noticed the difference to the bikes suspension as I left your estate - the bike wasn't "pogoing" over the speed bumps as it was on the way in. I went out for a ride on Saturday with my son and the difference was truly amazing - it was a lot more planted and composed on the twisty roads up around Kettlewell and Hawes and held the riding line a lot better. That bouncy feeling was gone and the roads felt a lot smoother. It felt like the front and rear suspension were working together rather than fighting each other!!. A great bike just got even better!!!!. Thanks again. Andrew

Hi John, I am so glad I found you on Alpha suspension on the Internet. Have had my Panigale 6 months and so disappointed with the handling, I was getting ready to sell the bike. Since your visit and you set up the suspension for me the Panigale is transformed it's a totally different bike now. I can't thank you enough for sorting the bike for me. What impressed me the most was your professional way and attitude on how you did the work, and kept me informed on what you did and why. Thank you so much, Clive.

Yamaha FJR1300

Hi John, Wow, what else can I say, when I left you I headed back down the M1 and the bike felt a hundred times better, absolutely rock solid and planted even at three figures. I took your advice and peeled off at Barnsley heading for the Woodhead. Wonderful. Glorious. Braking as deep and as far in to the corners as I dared, she just reeled it all in. Back home over the snake was joyous, I felt safe, confident and 100 per cent happy. Many many thanks mate.....Barrie.

An absolute amazing transformation the bike is so easy to ride now and I can really use the Ohlins to its full potential, the bike rides like no other bike I have owned in 15 yrs of riding sports bikes this one takes any corner in its stride with ease! Thanks again John P.S. keep up the good work! Chris Leeds

2008 Yamaha FZ1-N

John, you adjusted the suspension on my 2008 Yamaha FZ1-N on 27th April at Pit stop diner, You said you only had to make some "small adjustments"....... What a difference, my bike feels so much more planted mid corner & bumps seen to have "vanished" had a quick blast yesterday on dry roads & am over the moon with the bike, lots more confidence in the front, Cant sing your praises enough....Great job!! Mark

2011 Triumph Speed Triple

Thanks for the new bike John. I found the suspension harsh (especially the front) on standard settings and never felt particularly confident on bumpy corners on the Dales roads that I usually ride. John's adjustments have transformed the bike for less than the price of a night out. As an added bonus it is a great deal more comfortable! Money well spent. Thanks again, Jim.

Ducati Monster 1100 2011

John, It is SO MUCH BETTER!! I think the previous owner must have fiddled with it before. It is so much more positive and stable going into corners. The front end was sagging too much before and making me feel uneasy. Thanks very much. I have given your details to several friends. Kind regards, Duncan

2012 Yamaha FJR1300

Hi John. The bike felt different immediately. On the road home, it really came into its own, the steering was precise and in heavy town traffic, felt so much lighter. Previously, stop start traffic was hard work, not any more. Then, in the twisty bits, the bike just flicked over without any effort on my part, superb. I got so carried away with the "new bike", that the return journey home was 195 miles, via the Trough of Bowland,. Overall, your adjustments made for a much better ride, so much more comfortable and especially so in town traffic, without a doubt the best thirty quid ever spent on a motorbike in 47 years of riding them. Many thanks. Best regards, Peter

2012 Street Triple R

Hi John, Many thanks for setting up my bikes suspension yesterday. The set up has transformed the bike, and believe it or not, I could feel a difference going over the speed bumps leaving your street but it wasn't until I hit the main road that the changes really became evident. After losing my confidence that the bike would look after me through the twistys, I unexpectedly found myself covering over a hundred miles after I left you yesterday as i was having so much enjoyment from the bike!! The bike is well poised and feels ready to corner and now takes uneven surfaces in its stride. One consequence of your tuning I wasn't expecting was the feedback I now get from the brakes. The brakes respond through the suspension MUCH more progressively and not jolting or locking before a corner therefore unbalancing the bike before I've even turned in!!! I've always appreciated the importance of correctly set up suspension, but it wasn't till now I've experienced first hand just what it feels like. Best wishes, Stuart

Triumph Daytona 955

Hi John, I really wanted to ride the bike a few times, before telling you what a good job you had done. Which, in all honesty I knew within the first mile of leaving your house. I had only ridden the bike for 200/300 miles before letting you lose on it, I had decided that if you didn't sort it out, it was going to have to go! As I didn't feel safe on it. After leaving your house the bike felt much better. It had stopped Jarring every bone in my body for a start, which I hadn't realised was as bad as it was! Relaxing into the bike, making everything smoother, softer and a whole lot safer. I have had it over on some nice twisties and can't wait to see what it is really capable of??? This in my opinion should be first on the To Do list when you get a bike. Many Thanks Perry

Ducati Diavel

Dear, John, Been to the East coast today and it is absolutely fine. I think you've made a fantastic bike even better. The doubts I had yesterday have disappeared to be replaced by the realisation that the bike is simply planted better on the road. After doing 200 miles today, I've realised that the difference is that the harshness has gone from the front end and I can now definitely feel the back tyre gripping and the traction control kicking in. This has given me great confidence, even in the rain, and I think I have ridden better than ever today. I am going to post a link to your website on the Diavel forum. Thanks, John Cheers Shaun

Triumph Speed Triple R 2012 (On line set-up)

Hi John, I changed all settings as recommended & then went on a 50 mile run on a mix of different roads & I was pleasantly surprised at how different the bike now handles. The feeling I now get from the suspension is brilliant compared to being lifted out of the seat. The balance is so much better & the bike is less twitchy in higher speed corners, you also get away with more & don't need to concentrate as much, now it is more relaxed. Braking & acceleration now have more feel & the front gets a little light on the exit of corners, which I assume is the rear suspension now actually working. All round the bike is so much better & I am now happy to leave it at that. Thank you for your really good advice & experience, well done. Regards Brian

Ducati Multistrada 1200

John, you fettled the Multistrada suspension for me last week. Yesterday was the first opportunity I had to go out and give it a shake down. Brilliant job!!. I thought the handling was good before but it is now feels so much more "planted" to the road and confidence inspiring. The only downside is that I found myself going faster - sorry officer!!. Thanks again, Andrew

Triumph Speed Triple 1050 2007

Hi John, just a thank you for the suspension tune up today. I was thinking of selling my speed triple but after todays ride home I think it will be staying in my garage a lot longer. After the 130 mile ride home I still wanted more and ended up putting another 20 mile on the trip. This is the first time I have taken my tyres from edge to edge. I cannot stress enough how much difference this has made to my bike and my confidence in it. Thanks again. Rich

John, on the ride home after the setup yesterday I realised that I have not enjoyed riding this bike. I wish I had come to you sooner. Bike feels much more under control prior to and during bend. On balance, better over bumps, smoother and controlled through bends and a pleasure to ride. Dev.

Triumph Speed Triple 2012

John, Many thanks for the work you did on my 2012 Triumph Speed Triple at Willingham Woods on Saturday, you’ve totally transformed the feel of the bike. Prior to this any bump in the road would send shock waves through the bike, at times even blurring my vision and threatening to throw me off the bike. I’d also struggled with braking and acceleration simply because I just couldn’t feel what the tyres, especially the front one, were doing. Now however it feels like a different bike and the suspension feels really plush. I can brake much later into bends, the bike feels really planted on the road and for the first time I can feel exactly what the tyres are doing. To give you an idea of how much better it is now, my journey over to see you was about 100 miles and I couldn’t wait for it to be over. My journey back home to Stafford was 150 miles, simply because I enjoyed the ride so much that I took several detours to search out my favourite twisty roads. And I finally lost the “chicken strips” from the edges of my tyres, something I hadn’t been able to do in the 1,200 miles since taking delivery of the bike. I only wish I’d had the bike set up properly from day one. Thanks again, Duncan

Triumph Speed Triple 2010 (On line set-up)

I had been riding my Triumph Speed Triple for a year when I decided to set up my suspension properly. I found it very harsh on the road, throwing me out of the seat over bumps and sapping any confidence in the corners.I looked online and found a lot of guides to help with suspension set up but I I found John at Alpha Suspension Set-Up (almost 300 miles away). He asked that I take some measurements from the bike to know where we were starting from. I didn’t know how to measure sag but again John explained by email and I got him all the measurements that he required. It was very easy, and he was quick to respond to any queries that I had. I also told him how I felt about the ride of my bike and he got back to me with some suggested settings.

I dialled them all in and jumped on my bike, keen to try it out and I was amazed! It had totally changed the bike. So much softer over bumps and didn’t get out of shape when leant over. I suddenly had a lot more confidence and a bigger grin. I wish I had done this a year ago!

I had paid £25 previously for a set up, and that didn't make much of a difference. If anything I think it was actually harder. For the road riding I do it was horrible. It was actually better doing it online (in my eyes) because I knew what had been adjusted and I had as much time as I wanted to test ride it. Adrian

Hello John, I could tell the difference with my bike as soon as I turned left out of your cul de sac. The bike felt like a new bike one and on top of that it was a pleasure to ride and I spent all day out on it! I can't thank you enough. I will be giving your number to all my biking friends because I think they should all have a check. Once again many thanks. Regards, Stuart

Hi John, You set up my BMW S1000 RR, I took it out over the weekend and I am very impressed and couldn't believe the difference. It was like someone had given me a different bike to ride, will definitely be recommending your service to anybody I know that has a bike. Thank you again. Nigel

BMW S1000RR

Hello John Having ridden 120 miles to Pit Stop Diner Stockton I had no doubt that you would sort my bike out, I was not disappointed, you act in a polite but professional manner and explain the process very clear. After you finished my suspension set up I rode down the east coast for another 160 miles, a bit extreme but it was 25 degrees. The bike felt more planted and I didn’t have to think maybe the front end might give way, I could relax a little more and so enjoyed the twisties to the max. I would recommend you to every rider who thinks they need a suspension set up. Regards Graham

Aprilia RSV 2005

Before I had the suspension set-up on my RSV it was slow to turn in and difficult to hold a line at speed, having said this its not until you get it sorted that you realize just how much it effects your riding! Since the set-up the bike turns in with minimal effort and feels super composed going around corners, leaning the bike over feels natural and confidence inspiring. Its the first time I've had this done to a bike, but will be one of the first things to do in future to a new bike.....highly recommended! Lee

Yamaha R6 2004

Good evening John,, Just a quick note to express my sincere thanks for your work on the suspension of my R6 on Friday. Even on the relatively short ride home, I could tell that the set-up was a hundred times better than when I brought it in, and the front dive under braking was gone. I have today used it for my commute on roads I am familiar with, and the improvement is just as impressive. It now seems to be more controlled through corners and less 'twitchy' when 'pressing on' a bit. Thank you again - I now know where to send friends who have similar issues with their suspension! Regards, Matt

Triumph Speed Triple 2011

Hi John, I was amazed at the difference; the ride fitted all the clichés about 'feeling like a different bike' and performed exactly as you said it would which has at last given me the bike I wanted in the first place and allowed me to ride it confidently.

I took it up to Towton/Ulleskelf/Ryther/Cawood/Sherburn where as you know there are plenty of tight and twisty lanes and it was a joy... It also highlighted where I'd probably got my own attempts at set-up wrong on the Fazer I had previously. I’m not the fastest rider on the road for sure but it allowed me to focus more on my position and speed into the bends and not worry about what it would do when it got there; I'm very familiar with the route but I’ve never been fully confident in using it to the full...I’m really looking forward to doing some proper rides now.

I really appreciated how you explained to me what you were doing throughout the set-up and how it would affect the handling and performance, I've already recommended you to my friends for your expertise, friendly manner and professionalism; and as the man said; 'I'll be back...'. Many thanks, Regards, Mick

Aprilia Tuono with RSV Ohlins forks

(On-line set-up)

Hi John, Finally managed to get the bike out yesterday afternoon for a 50 mile blast along the South Deeside road. What a difference!! There was two significant areas of improvement: Firstly and most dramatic change is the way the bike leans (before it just fell into the corner and you felt you almost had to keep holding it up - gave no confidence at all). Now it just leans in a controlled linear way and when you get to the angle of lean that you want, the bike stays where it is (totally neutral). Changing lean angle mid corner for road changes or changing tightness of the bend, is not a problem at all and the bike just does what you want. Perfect - problem solved! The second improvement is the hardness of the suspension over bumpy roads. Is definitely improved. Thanks again John, you're a genius, I would never have worked it out myself! Cheers, Lindsay

Triumph Speed Triple 1050

Hi John; Mine (bike) was a revelation. It’s a pretty good handling bike anyway, and I’m a very confident rider, but the improvement was amazing. I did the Pateley / Grassington / Kettlewell / Hawes run, roads I know very well - I have no chicken strip now!!!!

Best Regards – Jon.

Yamaha R1 2005

I have owned my bike since new and have always struggled with the handling and all my mates have suggested different set ups, none of which made it any better. Then one of my friends took his bike to you for a set up and said his handling was vastly improved. So I rang to arrange to take my forks over for checking and new oil and was surprised to discover you had found that there was 20mm too much fork oil in each fork leg. After the forks were re oiled, I re-fitted them and arranged for you to set the ride height and all the other stuff, which is far too technical for me to understand. I went out for a ride the next day and could not believe the difference, it actually steers into corners and rides them and a smooth exit. To be honest my friends used to say I took corners like they were 50 pence pieces not any more. Thanks John, now I’m smooth and take bends a lot faster. I cant believe I have struggled for 6 years and I thought it was the bike, when it just needed setting up, and to be honest cheap at twice the price. Thanks again John.

P.S. NEXT TIME I CHANGE MY BIKE THE FIRST THING I WILL BE DOING IS RINGING ALPHA TO BOOK A SET UP, Stuart

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ducati 1098

Hello John. With regard to the suspension set up at Squires on Sunday.

The bike feels a lot more compliant and comfortable to ride, i.e. not as jarring to ride. I was used to the way it was set up before but did not realise how hard it was until you did your setting up.

The timing of the work couldn't have been better as I had just completed a track day at Rockingham a few days before and had another one booked at Oulton Park on the following Wednesday.

The difference on track was a lot more noticeable than on the road with the bike feeling more stable under braking, turning in more sharply and just generally more stable all round.

I think the service you provide should be offered by the sales teams of all bike shops and dealerships as part of the package of buying a new or second hand bike, as it can only enhance the safety and enjoyment of riding a bike. Kind regards, Paul

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MV Agusta Brutale 1078

Hi John, The bike is very different after your adjustments. I now see what you meant about the rear 'collapsing' when driving out of corners, it's much, much better now and it doesn't seem to want to lift it's front wheel as much. The ride over rippled roads is much better. It was a bit of a handful before, the front would hop over a series of ripples and it took a bit of holding on to. I took it up to a road near Saddleworth, which it was particularly bad on, and the problem has gone. I have also noticed something that I didn't realise was a problem in the first place. When cornering and the line is upset (pothole, bump, etc.) it is much more steady and doesn't step out as much now. All in all, I'm well chuffed John, thanks for your help. Steve

Triumph Speed Triple (2010)

Hi John, Just a quick email to say that the bike feels much better now after the changes you made to my suspension. Yamaha R1 2006

John, Just a quick mail to say thank you very much for taking the time to set up my suspension tonight, I got a fantastic service setting the suspension up specifically for me. I think the service would be cheap at twice the price and the difference I felt riding the bike afterwards was huge. The rear felt far more planted and less likely to squirm under heavy acceleration. I felt far more confident accelerating out of corners on what I consider to be full lean and the bike just now goes exactly where I point it. I will definitely come to you for my fork service and recommend you to my biking friends. Given the current service levels I've experienced recently with my bank etc it is nice to know there are people out there who enjoy what they do and give excellent service as opposed to trying to rip people off. Thanks again and I'll speak to you soon.

Take Care, John

Ducati Monster S4Rs

John, The changes you made to the suspension settings on my Ducati Monster S4Rs the other week have been amazing. The bike feels loads better now. The way I arrive at bends now is best described as composed - I think in the past the bike was still recovering from the braking or any bumps on the way in. The change has been noticed by my daughter and my wife, who both ride pillion. My daughter said it was better because she did not head butt me any more. The wife said I was riding like I was "on a mission" - clearly my speed around the twisty roads is now higher than it used to be!

Best money I have ever spent on the bike and pound for pound much better value than Termigs, Power commanders and the like.

I will be seeing you early next spring to let you have a look at my Ducati 916. Regards Neil

Ducati Multistrada 1000S with Ohlins

John, Just to let you know, I had the opportunity to ride over familiar roads and better gauge the changes. Yesterday I rode on a very bumpy stretch of road that used to be very uncomfortable - I could feel every bump. Now the bike glides over the bumps and it's even smoother than in my car. Also, I'm finding myself going 10-15 mph faster through certain corners because the bike is so much more confidence-inspiring. Thanks. Pedro

Hello John, just a short message to thank you profusely for the setting up of my Ducati 999R. I was having a ride out over Scamenden/Saddleworth last night and I can't believe how different the bike feels. My Ducati just falls into the corners and I feel now like I was fighting it before!!! Ducati Superlight 900

John, Yes the ride back to Wakefield from Willingham Woods was spirited (as are most of my rides) and I did notice a big difference in handling, for the better I will add. Now I was brought up on a rigid Bantam and all this rebound and preload stuff does go over my head and I thought I would have the bike set up just so I would know it was “correct”, but to my amazement I actually felt a better handling characteristic, what have I been missing all these years, what else is out there maybe a likeable Japanese m/cycle. Thank you John (and wife) Malcolm

Hi, Your adjustments to my suspension on my bike were brilliant. I feel a lot more confident on the bike in the twisties, because the bike when I fetched it to you was too hard. But now it gives a lot more feel and I am happy with it thanks for a job well done. With thanks. Lennie

Yamaha FJR1300

Hi John, The bike handled like a dream and my confidence in it's true ability returned after the first few corners. The journey home was enjoyable and riding at speed was effortless it was like the difference between riding a Penny Farthing and a Tour de France racing bike. Before you sorted it, the front end was so stiff and it was like going round threepenny bits on roundabouts and the faster I went, the more vibration I got through the footpegs and it was difficult above 95 because it started to weave. Going over bumps was also uncomfortable but now it's spot on It was all so bad, I was dreading riding up to Edinburgh and back on Sunday - I'm now looking forward to going on the bike. Cheers, Nick

Hi John, I really didn’t expect to feel much difference with my bike to be honest but as I began to get a bit of speed up leaving Leeds I was quite amazed at the difference, I wish I was able to tell you exactly what the difference is but I’m not entirely sure. The bike feels a lot more under control and much more responsive when cornering, also it seems to be more stable when braking. Thank you very much, it was def money well spent and I am recommending you to all of my friends. Julie.

Triumph Speedtriple

Hi John, I've been riding it constantly since I got back.

I've been on all my favourite bumpy twisty B roads round our way, and a naughty twilight thrash around Oliver's Mount last night.

It feels so much more planted at the front, and confidence inspiring.

There is a lot more feel from the front and less twitchyness (is that a word) when on bumpy roads. The back is the same, it just seems to get on with the job without fuss now. And round Oliver's Mount on a smooth race trackesque surface it just feels so light, smooth, I just wanted to lean it over more and more each time round. I looked at my tyres after a couple of laps, they show use from edge to edge now, where before there was a couple of cm's strips of none use each side. On the really bumpy back roads the suspension front and back is still a bit harsh, but only at the extremes.

In short, it just shows how knowledge a tape measure and a screwdriver can transform a bike. Thank you very much John. Simon

Hi John, I was very impressed with the results of the adjustments you made. The bike ride is the best I have ever had it & it was the best money I have spent. Thanks, David Smith

Aprilia Shiver, 750 V twin,

John, I didn’t get home till after 5pm, had a fantastic ride. The ride height, feel, rebound, steering, control, everything is far superior feels like a completely new bike. Thanks very much for your works and you will always be recommended. Regard Lee.

Aprilia Tuono

Hi John, The changes you made to my Tuono, from factory settings, was very good. The front feels much more positive and follows a line through a corner dead on. Big improvement to the bike and now to my riding. Thanks, Chris Alce

Bennelli 900Tre

Hi John, I just wanted to drop you a mail to let you know how its going. It

definitely feels more responsive on the front and although the ride

height is a little higher and firmer, it generally feels a lot more

comfortable, especially on the rebound. At low speed (mini roundabouts

and the like) it handles especially well compared to previously and at

higher speed it just glides far smoother over rough road. Regards, John

KTM 990 SM

Hi John, I've put some more miles on the bike. The ride height reduction, even though just a few mm, has made a big difference; it's much easier to manoeuvre around and definitely helps gives more confidence when stopping on less than level ground. In respect of handling, the adjustments you made have also been a great improvement, with bump control certainly more progressive and leading to a much more controlled and comfortable ride overall; it's now turned into a fantastic point-to-point machine for both A and B roads, so a great success all round. All the best. Phil.
